This Montana elk hunt takes place in the Big Belt Mountains of south central Montana on 50,000 acres of a privately owned working cattle ranch. The property serves as one of the area’s primary rutting and wintering grounds for elk and mule deer. A resident elk herd ranging from 350 to 600 head provides excellent opportunity throughout the season. This is a fair chase hunt, and the area is managed under a brow tine regulation, meaning spike bulls are not legal.
These five day hunts begin on Sunday, with hunters arriving Saturday and departing the following Friday. Groups are limited to six to eight hunters per week, with one guide for every two hunters unless other arrangements have been made in advance. Hunting methods consist primarily of spotting, glassing and stalking. Transportation throughout the ranch is provided using four wheel drive crew cab trucks and Suburbans.
The ranch has an extensive road system, allowing the guides to build a hunt around each hunter’s age, experience and physical condition. The outfitter has historically maintained a 75 to 80 percent success rate on bulls with five points or better. Above all, the goal is to provide a fun and memorable hunting experience, backed by courteous guides who are willing to work long and hard to give every hunter the best opportunity possible.
