| By now you have heard us say that elk and mule deer hunts are booking or have already been booked at a record rate. The fact is, the guided hunting industry has changed over the past two years. Border closures caused a massive spike in demand for US-based hunts and backlogged Canadian options. Now, in order to book the best elk, mule deer, and caribou hunts, unless rare exceptions, you need to start planning a year ahead, or in some cases, two years ahead. Below, you will see some excellent options for hunting mule deer. There are only a few spots left for 2022 and these will go quickly for certain. Even the 2023 hunts and in some cases 2024 hunts will be booked in the coming weeks. Alberta Whitetail & Mule Deer Combo
Here is an exciting hunt we have featured before. However, we now have new dates that make this even more appealing! This Alberta combination hunt is with a very reputable outfitter with more than 30 years in the business. Only 2 spots remain for 2022! You get not one, but two deer on this hunt, a mule deer and a whitetail deer. Historically, success on taking both animals is very, very high. Enjoy comfortable accommodations, home-cooked meals, and professional guide service (2×1) on this hunt. Reasonable expectations are Whitetails in the 125-145 class and Mule Deer from 140-170. You are hunting an excellent area south and west of Calgary encompassing almost 1000 square miles of beautiful scenery and habitat. These are mountain mule deer and make an exciting spot and stalk hunt while whitetails are typically spotted in the valleys and creek beds. This hunts offers a complete and memorable Canadian experience.

Utah Archery Hunt- Full Velvet
If you are an archery hunter in search of a true trophy and the idea of full velvet gets you excited then you need to look closely at this hunt in Utah. This is the first hunt of the season and you will join just 3 other hunters on this proven ranch. Typically 2 and often times 3 of the 4 hunters are able to harvest on this hunt and most often there are ample opportunities and numerous stalks for all hunters. This is a 1×1 fully guided hunt with comfortable cabin accommodations. Low pressure, good numbers, and quality habitat make this a consistent producer each year. Bachelor groups are common and prior scouting allows for very effective ambush plans. Hunting is typically spot and stalk but ground blind and waterhole hunting can also be effective.

Colorado Trophy Rifle Hunt
Now here is one of those that you just have to plan ahead for. This hunt is consistently booked a year and even two years in advance, and for good reason. The deer pictured above was taken by our consultant Brett Mattson who has hunted this ranch numerous times. This was a 2021 hunt on nearly the exact same dates available to you in ’23, and or ’24. Brett’s deer was outscored by multiple other deer taken on this hunt. This unit in southwest Colorado is renowned for its trophy animals. This outfitter has been proven time and time again. He is honest, friendly, and offers a throwback, family-run outfit with comfortable cabins, good meals, a fun camp… and of course some exceptional deer. On this hunt, you are targeting 175-195 inch bucks and a 200 does occasionally fall.

Archery Mule Deer in Washington
If you like to have fun when you are hunting…this hunt is the epitome of fun! We hosted (and filmed) a group here in 2021 and immediately reclaimed our spots for 2022. We have room for 2 more hunters to join in on the fun this fall Tim is going back for seconds. While we didn’t notch all of our tags in 2021, it wasn’t for lack of letting arrows fly. This is a very target-rich environment with good numbers of deer. You are not likely to tag 150+ inch deer on this hunt, but if you want to kick your hunting season off chasing numerous bucks with stick and string this is an adventure you will enjoy. Great hosts, great accommodations, amazing food, and lots of laughs are sure to round out your hunt.

If you still need a good hunt for 2022 you will want to move quickly This is an over-the-counter tag on Utah’s CWMU program. This is a 1×1 hunt on a private ranch. This ranch is approximately 17,000 acres. On this hunt, you are targeting deer in the 150-170 class. Being in good shape will up your odds at closing the distance on the bigger bucks. You will be spending your evenings in a comfortable ranch where lodging and meals are included.
