Born and raised in the South Carolina Lowcountry, Dr. Ted’s love for the outdoors was sparked at the young age of eight when he first followed his dad and uncle into the field for a day of quail hunting. From that moment on, he was hooked—captivated by the thrill of the hunt, the beauty of the land, and the camaraderie that comes with time afield. Whether it was wing shooting for doves and ducks, gigging frogs and flounder, or chasing everything from catfish and bass to tarpon and tuna, the outdoors quickly became a central part of his life.
In the early 1980s, Ted discovered turkey hunting and was immediately drawn in by the challenge, the sounds, and the deep connection it fostered with nature. Years later, with encouragement from his cousin, he picked up a bow and began elk hunting during the rut—a pursuit he describes as “turkey hunting on steroids.” Over the years, his passion for waterfowl has taken him across the United States and Canada on memorable trips with his kids and church friends, where he’s learned firsthand what makes a great outfitter.
Now mostly retired from a successful career in dentistry, Ted has been married for 46 years and is the proud father of four married children and grandfather to eleven. Sundays after church are reserved for family lunches, where the conversation always turns to recent adventures in the field and plans for the next one. His oldest son, a wildlife biologist and elk bowhunting fanatic, is now stepping in to help his “computer-challenged” dad with his work for Hosted Hunts.
When he’s not in the field, Ted stays busy with his church and as a musician, playing trumpet both in his congregation and with the Charleston community. He is a life member of NWTF, CCA, and the NRA, and also proudly supports DU and Delta Waterfowl.
We are thrilled to have Dr. Ted as part of the Hosted Hunts team. His decades of hands-on experience, genuine love for the outdoors, and thoughtful, faith-filled approach to life make him an incredible resource and a joy to work with.
