or Single Species Hunt…
This is a proven outfitter with over 20 years of experience in the province. A family-run business and people who do it the right way, for the right reasons!
To be fair, it would take some good fortune to take all three animals on this hunt. That said, taking two awesome trophies is a very probable outcome. The hunt will be tailored to the two species that you most desire to harvest. Or if you prefer to chase just one, you can take advantage of some significant savings by booking the remaining spot this fall.
Mountain Goat: This is a fantastic area for mountain goats. An average goat is usually between 8-9.5″ with goats over 10 inches harvested every year. Due to their location, the goat’s winter hair comes in relatively early, providing a beautiful full-body mount. They use horses as much as possible to access areas and find the goats, and then you pursue them on foot. Again, there are a lot of goats here and it is not uncommon to see them every day.
Moose: You are hunting less than 30 miles from the Yukon border so these bulls have great genetics. Because you are in British Columbia, these bulls are classified as Canadian moose and are awe-inspiring animals. Bulls generally average 52” wide with impressive palms and mass. Every year they take a few bulls that score over 200″ BC. Moose works well as a combo hunt. When the weather cooperates you target moose and if the weather turns warmer the best route is to hunt goats until the weather cools back off, usually warm windy weather passes quickly and you are back into great moose hunting once it goes. The rut hunt is the best hunt to get close to bulls and see that classic rutting bull coming into the call raking and grunting but is not any more successful than the post or pre-rut hunts.
Elk: This area also boasts a large population of elk. They do have a 6-point regulation which translates into good trophy quality. This area has a lot of burns and the elk hunting works exceptionally well in combination with Moose especially as both species favor different aspects of the regrowth that occurs after a forest fire. Bulls range in size from 270-310 with the occasional bull exceeding this. They are usually heavy and very impressive in appearance but lack the long main beams needed to score over 320″. Elk on a combination trip with moose usually results in a lot of meat for you to bring home. Frequently, hunters on the big combo hunts will drive to the base camp on the famous Alaska Highway with a freezer in the back of their truck and bring all their animals home with them to enjoy for the rest of the year. For those who do not drive, flights are into either Fort St. John or Fort Nelson.
It can be advantageous to charter a flight to a specific hunting location where prior scouting has determined game is abundant. A flat rate of $1500 covers the round-trip flight and this option can be discussed and arranged before your hunt.
The base camp is accessible by paved road. Many of the camps are comfortable rustic cabins, all of which are strategically located. Certain areas, or as the situation dictates, are better served by spiking out in tents. Every effort is made to tailor the style of hunt to each hunter’s preferences and goals. In every case, this is a true mountain adventure, and one you will not forget.
Black bear and wolves can be harvested for no additional fee with a valid tag in possession. Hunters are encouraged to participate in this predator control effort. Tags and tax are not included in the hunt price.
Don’t just take our word for it! See what our client Stu W. had to say about his experience on this exact hunt in 2023…
This was my fourth amazing hunt coordinated by Scott Duberowski and Hosted Hunts. My dad and I did this hunt together in the backcountry of Northern British Columbia. We traveled together but split up and hunted out of different areas. The outfitter did a phenomenal job making sure we were on animals and having fun. The lodging, food, animal quality/quantity, guides, and equipment were all excellent. Trip of a lifetime! I was able to harvest a 9.5″ billy and a nice moose and my dad harvested a great moose as well. We would highly recommend Hosted Hunts! – Stu W.
